Cultural Perspectives has continued to advocate for and support the greater accessibility of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and disability services for ability from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

In probably one of our biggest projects to date, Cultural Perspectives has been funded by the Federal Government to deliver multilingual resources that will serve to bring together relevant information about disability and service access including the NDIS. Its’ point of difference is that it has been developed for, with and by people from non-English speaking backgrounds and people with lived experience of disability. The project is titled MiAccess (Multilingual information Access).

MiAccess is a purpose-built website, accessible in 10 languages, that brings together information about issues relevant to people with disability from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, their carers, and communities in over. The multilingual material on the site delivers information pieces in over 30 languages.

The website hosts information that is essential in both understanding disability environments and accessing the NDIS, as well as understanding the particular issues experienced by people with disability from CALD backgrounds.

MiAccess will be promoted and supported though a media campaign and outreach into non English-speaking background communities to demonstrate the site and engage non English speaking audiences with virtual reality (VR) experiences developed to demonstrate the benefits of seeking support from the NDIS.

We are also seeking opportunities through conferences, and workshops in both the disability and cultural diversity space to promote the website and its wealth of multilingual resources and to engage both sectors on the needs of people with disability and carers from CALD backgrounds.

To find out more on how to get involved or share your materials on MiAccess, please contact: info@miaccess.com.au. The site will be live from 30th April 2021.
