As we step into November we’re looking towards the upcoming 2nd South Asian Theatre Festival. It will be on during 9-10 November at Riverside Theatre in celebration of the South Asian languages that transcend cultures and geographical boundaries.
The three featured plays at the festival are all one-act plays including an Urdu play, ‘Jehan Ara ke Teen Roop’ (The Three Faces of Jehan Ara); a Gujarati play, ‘Bapu Downunder’; and a Sinhalese play, ‘Thara’. These short plays explore the topics of gender, war, and terrorism in South Asian language and a different cultural setting.
This festival is brought by the Nautanki Theatre, an independent theatre company based in Sydney which has been promoting theatre on cross-cultural platform since 2008. Nautanki is working along with three of these theatre groups to bring you three ‘one act’ plays over two nights.
