The 14th Arabic Film Festival launches in Sydney on 17 August with the opening night screening its feature movie – MAHBAS, at Riverside Theatres Parramatta. The six feature movies and five short movies will tell a variety of stories reflecting cultures in a number of Arabic speaking countries including Lebanon, Egypt, Algeria, Jordan, Palestine, Iraq, and Tunisia. The festival will then move through to Melbourne (25-27 August), Canberra (01–02 September) and conclude in Perth (09 September).
The annual Arab Film Festival Australia (AFFA), is a signature event of the Information and Cultural Exchange (ICE) and one of the largest events on the Arab-Australian cultural calendar. According to the latest census, Arabic speaking community in Australia has increased in population size by 12% between the 2011 and 2016 census, increasing from 287,174 to 321,728 people.
