The Sydney Film Festival 2017 opens today with a sizeable collection of most interesting films telling stories during 7-18 June.
It is one of the most significant annual events in Sydney’s event calendar, and this year, the Festival again brings together international and local talents to take the audience to explore the issues we face today with 288 films from 59 countries, which reflects a wide cultural diversity in its programme. For example, EUROPE! VOICES OF WOMEN IN FILM presents a program of 10 new films from vital European women filmmakers. From Ireland to Denmark, and Portugal to Macedonia, Europe! Voices of Women in Film shed light on emerging women filmmakers who are working to address gender inequality. In partnership with Powerhouse Arts Centre, the Festival screened an Oscar-winning Iranian thriller, The Salesman, in April in South Western Sydney, one of the most multicultural suburbs in Sydney.
