At this week’s FECCA Conference in Darwin, NT, Cultural Perspectives Group and Positive Partnerships jointly presented a case study on engaging culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities on sensitive cultural issues.
At a session focusing on culturally difficult conversations, Pino Migliorino AM, Managing Director of Cultural Perspectives Group, introduced the Multicultural Engagement Strategy and Framework developed for Positive Partnerships in October 2016 to support their need to understand CALD communities and allocate necessary autism spectrum support resources to CALD communities. Jacqui Borland, National Director of Positive Partnerships, continued the presentation showcasing the successful results achieved so far in the Strategy implementation. Pino and Jacqui together presented Positive Partnerships’ best practices and learnings in genuinely connecting with the CALD communities.
“We have delivered great results through the Multicultural Engagement Strategy and achieved deep, meaningful engagement with the CALD communities over a very short period of time,” Ms. Borland said. “We’re now established ongoing relationships with community organisations which will help us reach the wider community to raise awareness of autism”.

The FECCA Conference is a bi-annual, national conference organised by the Federation of Ethnic Communities Councils of Australia (FECCA), Australia’s peak body for multiculturalism. With the theme “Celebrate. Reflect. Advance: Our Multicultural Australia”, this year’s conference is held during 8-10 October and co-hosted by the Multicultural Council of Northern Territory. There was a total of 16 sessions on a variety of topics on multiculturalism and diversity including media, social inclusion, health, and social policy.
