The staff at Cultural Perspectives Group has ended the week on a high after the first of our Leichhardt Luminaries series. Leichhardt Luminaries is a series of monthly guest speaker events held at our office in Leichhardt for staff to learn and to be inspired, offering precious opportunities for us to listen, question, and learn from some of the most interesting intellectual personalities in Australia about important issues for both our work and minds.

Held on the first week of July, NAIDOC week celebrates traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievement. Originated in 1940, the celebration has evolved into a full week of cultural events which aims to raise awareness of the status and the importance of Indigenous Australians (Australian First Peoples) across various communities.

Giuseppe Pino Migliorino, Managing Director of Cultural Perspectives Group, was named a Member of the Order of Australia on the Queen’s Birthday weekend this year. Mr Migliorino’s appointment recognises his outstanding contribution to the Italian community, to multicultural and refugee settlement assistance groups and through advisory roles.

Chinese Dragon Boat Festival
Chinese Dragon Boat Festival is fast approaching. Also known as Duan Wu Festival, this is a traditional Chinese festival that commemorates the death of one of the greatest Chinese poets - Qu Yuan - and is celebrated by dragon boat racing and eating sticky rice dumplings (Zong Zi). The festival follows the Chinese lunar calendar, so the date of celebration varies year to year. This year, the Dragon Boat Festival falls on 30 May.
